Details
Theme:
The Call From a Foreign Kingdom
C.S. Lewis describes the concept of the Sehnsucht, which comes from the German, and loosely means longing for a better world and country, one that never existed but you can feel ... Lewis uses and expands this concept throughout his Narnia stories. Here he describes it a bit further.--

Prompt:
"...The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things—the beauty, the memory of our own past—are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited."
--CS Lewis, The Weight of Glory.
"I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now...Come further up, come further in!"
--CS Lewis, The Last Battle.
Bring Art based on the Theme:
Let's all come together and make work around the theme, and to show each other at the meeting. The idea is to come to the meeting with work already finished: a photo, a drawing or a picture-- a new form of dress, a story, a ritual -- anything you would like to share that relates to the theme.
The Call of the Foreign Kingdom.
Then we will meet at the Golden Gopher bar to have a few drinks share your work and what it means to you and why you felt compelled to make it. We will then document and publish the work online. So everyone can see the various takes on the theme.
• What to bring
Camera, self, artwork, pencil, pen, ect. Come with nothing or come with lots of stories.
