What we’re about

Hi, and thanks for stopping by at the meetup. Before you join, make sure you read the full description, of what the meetup is about.

First and foremost, I’d like to mention it is open for everybody, this meetup is (supposed to be) as far from community thinking, elitism, hive-mentality, and trend-following as possible. It is for anybody who is interested in kink, veganism, or the mixture of both, as lo and behold, these two topics are related to one another in more ways than one, on which I’ll elaborate shortly.

In any case, as mentioned above, this is not an elitist club. The idea is to bring together people who are outside of these two “scenes” and would like to have an open discussion to expand their views and feed their curiosity, as well as those who are living one or both of these lifestyles.
The reason for that being is that creating communities and parallel societies, that separate themselves from the outside and do not allow anyone inside usually leads to suspicion, prejudice, in worst-case scenarios even persecution. So this is a place where we can come together from different walks of life and talk about these aspects of life.

The only thing that is expected from all participants is a flexibility of mind, an ability to be open and not respond with thunder and fury when views are being challenged. No judgment of opinions, even controversial ones, before we fully hear out the story and make an effort to understand other people’s views. To put it in different words, the following qualities: condescending, ignorance, judgment, prejudice, self-centeredness, superiority, etc. are an absolute no-go, period. With these traits present, with no patience, respect, and understanding shown, there can be no constructive discussion, and that is what the goal here is. Of course, there’s no possibility to create a utopia, but an attempt at least would be appreciated, with no drama involved.

And why these two exactly? - both kink (or fetish, or sex-positivity) and veganism found their home in Berlin, or so it seems. They both have a long way to go, but are becoming slowly, but surely an integral part of the cities culture and “personality”, rather than being just another trend (as it should as both kink and veganism should be based on ethics, for which trends usually have complete disregard). As said, there is still a long way to go, but the potential for further development is certainly there.

And how are they connected? - both kink and veganism deal with the aforementioned ethics. And I cannot stress the word “ethics” and its importance enough. Both deal with the relation to, and treatment of another conscious, living being, or a multitude of those. This is where the empathic and philosophical aspects of the Meetup come in. It revolves around a discussion of what are our limits, how far can one go with carrying out certain actions, whether they are, and if yes, then when, forgivable or understandable? What is consent (and what an empty cliche word it unfortunately became), how many types of consent there are and how can it be used in a wrong, i.e. manipulative, abusive way?

Overall, animal and human lives overlap so much, and regarding our diets, or fetishes, the animal aspect is very much present and also in dire need of more discussion.
There is of course much more to include here, but I do believe the description thus far paints enough of a picture to give you an idea, of what to expect and whether this is for you. If the answer is yes, feel welcome and don’t hesitate to join:)
