SUSHI SAMBA L.A.
You might know Sushi Samba as the early aughts NYC hot spot where Samantha threw a dirty martini on Richard in Sex and the City. Now it’s arrived in Weho, somehow looking hotter than it did 20 years ago. The secret? A stunning rooftop patio that’s packed like a pool party and equipped with a retractable dome roof that makes SoFi Stadium look like a school diorama (the build-out cost around $20 million, according to the GM).

Sushi Samba brings its Japanese-Brazilian fusion to a DAZZLING West Hollywood rooftop. The London-based restaurant has a massive retractable roof, caipirinhas, and a menu that blends Brazilian, Japanese, and Peruvian flavors by London-based Sushi Samba.

The international chain debuted its Los Angeles location with an open-air dining room serving 360-degree views. Sushi Samba is its own type of clubstaurant: While live entertainment and a vibrant atmosphere are part of the experience, the restaurant has a set of experienced chefs, Maxwell Terheggen and John Um, at its helm. In West Hollywood, the duo composed a menu full of sashimi and sushi, ceviches, and thinly-sliced Peruvian tiraditos, while ingredients like sea bass, rib-eye anticuchos, and asparagus are grilled robata-style over binchotan charcoal.

Favorite dishes
Larger platters include crowd-pleasing black cod and Japanese wagyu prepared over hot stones with dipping sauces. The Peruvian influence comes through in chicken a la brasa and Kobe arroz chaufa, while Brazilian moqueca is packed with shrimp, squid, sea bass, mussels, clams, coconut milk, dende oil, and chimichurri-infused rice. 60% of the menu keeps Sushi Samba’s core dishes, while Terheggen and Um developed new ones including the signature Samba LA roll with A5 wagyu, soft shell crab tempura, heirloom tomato chimichurri, chestnut puree, and a balsamic soy sauce reduction.

Spirit favorites
Wine and beer are available, as well as the Lychee Cooler cocktail with Grey Goose, Le Citron vodka, coconut cream, lychee water, and elderflower cordial with vanilla. The Kobe with beef fat-washed Japanese whisky, Ardbeg 10-year single malt scotch, salted caramel, and maple is served over ice.

Live entertainment
During service, diners can expect 5 to 10-minute bursts of live entertainment with samba dancers, drummers, DJs, and surprises. In the coming weeks and months, the restaurant will introduce a late-night menu until 2 a.m.

The glamorous space
Sushi Samba group took over the West Hollywood property in 2024, completing construction in less than two years. Dizon Collective designed Sushi Samba’s West Hollywood outpost, bringing in terrazzo flooring, a marble bar, and lush plants; a former pool converted into a slightly sunken main dining room. There’s also a private dining room with a separate elevator entry. The rooftop features a retractable roof, sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills, and an east facing bar with a lounge that makes for an ideal spot to settle in for a cocktail.

Sushi Samba is the latest addition to Southern California’s rooftop dining scene.

Other locations
In 2012, Sushi Samba’s flagship London location set in motion its current expansion with 10 locations, including Qatar, Dubai, and Singapore. Sushi Samba’s last U.S. location opened in 2008 in Las Vegas.
