Hiroshima Floating Lanterns Clean Up on Green Lake

Details
Pancake Paddle Special Edition -- Hiroshima Floating Lanterns Clean Up on Green Lake.
Every Aug. 6th at dusk the Hiroshima to Hope organization sponsors a lantern float on Green Lake. At the conclusion of this event the Pancake Paddle always lends a helping hand with picking up all the floating lanterns on the lake so that they can be used the following year. Here are some pics from past years:

Again this year we will be assisting in cleaning up the lanterns at the conclusion of the evening. Let's meet in the middle of Green Lake at 9PM. Bring a beverage or a snack if you like. We will watch the float until the clean up starts around 9:30 PM. Then we will scurry and scuttle about the lake picking up lanterns and handing them off to the row boats. We are usually done by 11PM. But you can quit any time you like. Your efforts are greatly appreciated
DIRECTIONS
Park and put in at any convenient location along the Green Lake shoreline then paddle to the middle of the lake by 9PM. You can't miss us. This paddle will conclude after dark. So be sure to bring a light.
Unfortunately there is no onsite rental availability for this paddle.
See you then!

Dear Friends of From Hiroshima to Hope,
Planning is well under way for this years' event on Wednesday, August 6 at Green Lake, Seattle. This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In these critical times it is very important to remember the victims of war and violence. You have participated and helped out in the past. I hope you will again sign up to be a part of this heartfelt and beautiful event.
Set-up at the site will begin at 1:00 PM.
The Family Program on stage will begin at 7:00 PM
Lanterns will be put out onto the lake beginning at 8:00 PM
We will have 100+ new Cross-bar lantern frames to put out on the water this year.
It takes many volunteers doing all sorts of tasks to put this event on. Please go to our website at www.fromhiroshimatohope.org and click on the Volunteer tab at the right to sign-up. Please also invite your friends and relatives to volunteer and/or attend. We need each and every one of you!
Site location: South of the Bathhouse Theater at West Green Lake Drive North and Stone Ave North

Sincerely with Hope for Peace,
Suzanne

ABOUT THE LAKE UNION PANCAKE PADDLE
Eat Swedish pancakes. Then paddle. Beginners are most welcome. If you don't own a kayak, SUP or canoe, they can be rented by the hour at the dock we launch from. This group is open to all paddle craft (kayaks, SUPs, canoes, inflatables, dragon boats, etc.) and gathers regularly at 9AM on the first Sundays of every month in the lobby of the Swedish Club which is open to the public for their monthly Swedish pancake breakfasts. We enjoy the ten million dollar view and have a Swedish pancake breakfast together to the accompaniment of live Scandinavian folk music. Then we take the short walk down to the dock and leisurely paddle for an hour or so on the placid urban waters of Lake Union, the most unique lake in the world--home to Academy award winning movies, amazing houseboats, historic vessels & sunken battleships, storied Olympic champions, Native American history, stupendous infrastructure, a surprising amount of wildlife and the birthplace of the Boeing Airplane Co.
We also do "Special Edition" paddles on the lakes and rivers of Western & Central Washington and on Puget's Sound, the Pacific Coast and the San Juans. Special Edition paddles often have no onsite rental availability.
