About this group.
This group is about Linguistics and learning a new language, and it is based in Dallas, TX (USA).
About learning a new language.
One of my goals is to start learning a new language every 8 to 12 weeks. Realistically we will not go beyond beginner level (unless there is enough interest by the active members). However, this meetup should enable language enthusiasts to join other groups of their target language with some ease.
Active members of this group are encouraged to attend all the meetups scheduled for the target language being learned. There are no designated teachers/professors in this group. We use learning material that I own and share with the group, or is available at bookstores and/or online. There is an agenda every week. Something new is learned every week, which builds on material covered previously, therefore attendance is important. For this reason, latecomers are welcome only if they are able to complete all the material covered to-date for the ongoing meetup(s). However, advanced language enthusiasts and native speakers are always welcome.
About linguistics.
One of my goals is to gain experience in second - Nth language acquisition, learn more about the application of various teaching/learning methodologies, and use what works best in this meetup environment. Second language acquisition is a time-intensive commitment, and I hope for us to find and use those methodologies that accelerate retention and production.
