Get ready for an absolutely gorgeous day trip outside the city to chase the peak fall foliage in the beautiful Hudson Valley! This is the perfect autumn escape, combining stunning scenery with great company and a celebratory beer.
### 🚂 Getting to the Hudson Valley
We’ll be riding the rails to get started! We will meet at Grand Central Terminal to catch the Metro-North Hudson Line train to Poughkeepsie. The best train for bringing our bikes is typically the one leaving GCT at 7:57 AM. While this train is generally bike-friendly, please do yourself a favor and double-check the Metro-North (MTA) website for any last-minute schedule or bike policy updates before the morning of the ride.
### 🚴 Our Friendly Foliage Adventure
This is a Scout Ride, which means we’ll be exploring the best, safest, and most scenic routes around Poughkeepsie to create a new classic for the club! More than anything, we prioritize good company and soaking in the incredible foliage spectacle over speed or distance.
Everyone is welcome! We welcome all bike skills, from seasoned cyclists to new members who are just finding their riding legs. We will be keeping a friendly, no-drop pace.
The complete loop will be about 35 miles long, but we could shorten it a bit depending on how we feel.
### 🍻 An Oktoberfest Finale!
Once our beautiful autumn ride is complete, we'll head straight for a well-deserved feast and a celebratory toast at the highly-rated Schatzi's Pub & Bier Garden! This is the perfect spot to officially bring the spirit of Oktoberfest to our day. Schatzi's is known for their fantastic German and local craft beer selection, along with elevated pub fare like schnitzel, bratwurst, and gourmet poutines.
### 🎒 What to Bring
For everyone's safety and comfort, please be sure to bring your bike helmet (mandatory!), bike lights (front and rear), plenty of water, and snacks to keep you fueled.
