A bit about trust; and Team Topologies - going beyond the Spotify model

Details
After a long break, we can finally announce a new Leadership Grind with two exciting talks!
# Talk 1 - A bit about trust
by Mark Pearl (https://www.linkedin.com/in/markpearl)
For many years I’ve heard people throw the word “trust” around but not be able to explain exactly what they mean. To be frank, I’ve struggled to explain it myself. Something so essential to working effectively with others, yet so hard to verbalise and get right.
In this session I’m going to:
- Share my journey on how to decompose trust
- Explain how trust is the foundation to us working effectively in planning, building and maintaining software.
- Share some behaviours you can adopt to increase trust
- Share some approaches you can take to repair trust.
# Talk 2 - Team Topologies - going beyond the Spotify model
by Hady Osman (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hadyosman)
Some people could outright ascribe feelings of exhilaration and increased quality of life when first experiencing work under the Spotify model. The breaking of silos, limiting work in progress, reducing dependencies on other teams… simple methods of working that can feel so profound at first.
Fast forward to today - with the level of scale and growth at Xero, the myriad of conflicting priorities, we have come full circle to where we started, and it is becoming clear to some that the Spotify model of team design is not enough.
In this session I'm going to:
- Explore the missing link - Team Topologies!
- Explain how to account for Conway's Law in matching team structures to the required software architecture
- Walk you in detail how you can do this exercise in your organisation and create thriving teams with manageable cognitive load and optimised for flow
The format of the event will be:
5.30 to 6.00pm: Networking and catering
6:00 to 6.45pm: Mark Pearl - "A bit about trust"
6.45 to 7.30pm: Hady Osman - "Team Topologies - going beyond the Spotify model"
