The Lit Bookshop is hosting the first Lit Bae Book Club Discussion of 2026!

Please join us at HQ RVA - 3104 Semmes Ave on Monday, February 23rd, 2026 from 6pm-8pm.

This time around we have 2 amazing books to choose from. You can read both or just one. These books have very similar themes but are told from 2 different perspectives.

Option 1: My Government Means To Kill Me by Rasheed Newson

Synopsis: My Government Means to Kill Me is Rasheed Newson's acclaimed debut novel, a coming-of-age story about a young, wealthy Black gay man who runs away to 1980s New York City to find himself amidst the AIDS epidemic and political upheaval, encountering historical figures and becoming involved in activism. Option 2: Disco Witches of Fire Island by Blair Fell

Synopsis: Disco Witches of Fire Island by Blair Fell is a fantasy romance novel set in 1989 Fire Island, following a gay man as he navigates love and loss during the AIDS crisis, discovering a secret coven of disco witches protecting the community. This book blends magical realism, queer romance, and historical fiction, exploring themes of love, community, and hope amidst tragedy, with a focus on a gay Armenian-American protagonist.
