Is Time a Persistent and Convincing Illusion ?
Details
What is time and why do we give it so much importance ?
Albert Einstein once said " The past, present and future are only illusions, even if stubborn ones."
The illusion of time is one of Eckhart Tolle's core teachings. According to Eckhart, the concept of time as we commonly experience it—structured as a continuous flow from past to present to future—is essentially an illusion created by the mind.
Tolle differentiates between clock time and psychological time:
Clock time refers to practical, chronological time used for scheduling, planning, and organizing life’s necessities. He acknowledges that this is useful for daily functioning.
Psychological time, however, is the mind’s tendency to dwell on the past or anticipate the future, often to the detriment of experiencing the present moment fully.
By focusing on psychological time, people become trapped in cycles of regret, nostalgia, worry, or desire, which prevents them from living in the now, the only place where life truly happens.
Join us on January 11th when we will explore the illusion of time and how the present moment is all we ever have.
