More and more people today are sensing dissatisfaction with purely material or ego-driven lives. This restlessness can lead to an awakening—a deeper recognition of one’s true essence, beyond the ego.
Humanity has, however, mostly remained trapped in identification with form—possessions, roles, thoughts, and beliefs. This identification creates the “ego,” the false sense of self.
Eckhart Tolle emphasises that a shift in consciousness isn’t just personal but necessary for the survival of humanity and the planet. If egoic patterns dominate unchecked, they can destroy the environment and perpetuate suffering. Awakening to a “new earth” means a collective rising in consciousness.
Join us on October 26th as we begin our exploration of Eckhart Tolle’s book, “A New Earth.” We will be using small discussion groups in breakout rooms so Please read chapter 1 of the book before the meeting so you can take part.
Here are some questions for you to contemplate while reading this chapter :
1. How do you interpret the phrase “A New Earth”? What kind of transformation is Eckhart pointing to ?
2. This chapter begins with the image of a flower as a symbol of consciousness. How does this relate to spiritual awakening ?
3. In this chapter Eckhart talks about the collective dysfunction of the human mind, what does he mean by this ?
