Chapter 3 explores how the ego keeps itself going through wanting, having, and needing—the habit of looking to the next goal, possession, or approval to feel complete. Even when we get what we want, the satisfaction often fades quickly, so the mind finds a new “missing piece.” Eckhart suggests the way out isn’t fighting the ego, but noticing these patterns in the moment and returning to present awareness, where we can still enjoy things and pursue goals without being driven by restlessness or lack.
Join is on February 1st when we will explore chapter 3 of A New Earth.
We'll be using small discussion groups and breakout rooms.
Please read chapter 3 of A New Earth before the meeting so you can take part in the discussions.
As you read this chapter keep a diary or notebook to hand and note down anything that resonates with you. Also here are some questions for you to contemplate about this chapter.
1. Can you notice ego not as “bad,” but as a pattern that shows up?
2. Where in your life do you most “need to be right,” and what are you afraid would happen if you weren't ?
3. Can you treat a trigger as a doorway: What is it in you that wants to react?
