This is a **photographers ‘long weekend’ to Marseille** and the wonderful annual **photo festival in Arles**. Marseille is the oldest port in the Mediterranean and the oldest city in France. At 2600 years old, it is an exciting and vibrant city with a rich history and plenty to turn our cameras onto. **The fee is £185 for the 3 days of workshops** with two in **Marseille** and one in **Arles**. An £85 deposit is required to reserve your place, with the final £100 due 4 weeks prior to our meetup.

During 2 of our days we are located around the Old Port Marseille. Subjects include

* **The Old Port**
* **The Panier** historical neighbourhood with plazas, houses and street art
* **Centre de la Vieille Charite**: the old asylum from the 17th century
* **Cathedrale de la Major** with its incredible structure
* **Mucem**: with beautiful terrace and architecture
* **Fort Saint-Jean**: guarding the port and city with beautiful sea views
* **Notre Dame de la Garde**, the cathedral of Marseille
* **Le Marches des Capucins**, the foodie heart of Marseille for fruit, vegetables and picnic supplies, exotic food stores and spice emporium.
* **La Friche la Belle de Mai**, a 45,000 sq m cultural site in the heart of Marseille, created on the old site of a huge tobacco factory, and a very cool urban place with modern art exhibitions, architecture, vegetable gardens, skatepark, bars/restaurants with lots of interesting urban spaces and perspectives.

Marseille food specialities include Panisse, Medeleines, Moule Marinieres, Pizza, Pissaladière, Aïoli, Ratatouille, Tapenade, and Bouillabaisse and will be most definitely difficult to ignore whilst we are there. Wine and Pastis too!

For one of our days we take the train to the wonderful **Les Rencontres d’Arles**, an annual and international photo festival in Arles - which is only 45mins-1 hr train ride from Marseille. [https://www.rencontres-arles.com](https://www.rencontres-arles.com)

During our weekend we look at current photography themes and practice photography with a series of mini projects in the streets of Marseille and Arles. You may be interested in extending your stay either before or after our long weekend.

**Accommodation**
Our meetups take place near the Old Port. Please stay somewhere in easy reach of this location. Marseille has areas which are safer to stay than others so please do some online research before booking your accommodation. Try Airbnb OR Expedia for good combined deals for travel and accommodation offers.

**Safety :** please be pickpocket aware. A money belt for valuables, passport, money etc is recommended, and a secure bag for your camera. Do not bring unnecessary valuables.

**Travel**
Flights to Marseille Airport with Ryanair, Easyjet and OR Eurostar Train by direct to Marseille leaving London St Pancras OR to Nice then local train to Marseille. Departure on Monday is not advised as it is a full Meetup day.

Not Included: Flights, transfers, accommodation, food and drink, entrance fees to any events or museum, local transport and anything not listed above.
**Additional Costs**
Travel costs, Insurance, accommodation, exhibition/museum entry tickets - (the all day pass to Les Rencontres d’Arles was approx £35 last year) and food need to be paid for independently.
