The nights are drawing in, but there's just time to squeeze in another walk before the clocks leap back. And what a corker of a walk of contrasts it is!

The first half out of Pulborough is lovely and flat, taking in the wetland bird paradise of Amberley Wild Brooks. Then, atoning for the sins of a glorious pub lunch in the chocolate box village of Amberley, it's a steep climb onto the scarp of the South Downs for, on a fine day, glorious views of the paths already trodden (see picture).

From then, though, it's downhill all the way, perhaps via the refuge of another pub if needed, ending in the fine little town of Arundel, for pub (anyone?) and a train home.

Marvellous - hope to see you there!
