EARTH WEEK-ALL AGES! Remove Invasive Species @ Terra Nova Richmond - 1st Session

Due to current COVID restrictions, THIS ACTIVITY WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO ENGAGE 9 PEOPLE (OF ALL AGES!). IF YOU CANNOT COME, PLEASE DO NOT RSVP so that someone else can participate. At this time our community members can ONLY RSVP AND ATTEND ONE SESSION.

We will be removing invasive Himalayan Blackberry at Terra Nova Rural Park in Richmond! We will be working RAIN OR SHINE.

We are running three sessions, PLEASE ONLY RSVP FOR ONE:

MEETING INSTRUCTIONS
• From the Terra Nova Rural Park Farm Centre, walk north along the path ~1min, turn right where the paths intersect and walk ~3min until you are at our tent. Look for our arrows and signs! A 5 minute walk from the parking lot. Exact location HERE: https://bit.ly/3d1mpKf

COVID-19 Protocols - PLEASE REVIEW CAREFULLY.

We ask that you do not participate (and to un-RSVP) if:

  1. You feel ill, or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as a sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, loss of taste or smell
  2. You or a member of your family have traveled internationally in the last 14 days
  3. You have been exposed to someone in the last 14 days who has been diagnosed with or is suspected to have COVID-19

Safety protocols to be followed at the activity:
• Physical distancing (at least 6 ft apart from those not in your household)
• There will be a hand sanitizing station. Please sanitize your hands when you arrive & before you leave
• Cough/sneeze into a tissue or into the bend of your arm
• Avoid touching your face
• We encourage you to wear a non-medical/cloth mask (we will have some on site)
• If you start to feel ill, inform staff & leave immediately
• Please bring your own gardening gloves, tools, safety glasses (we will provide clean ones to those who don't have any)
• Dogs must be on leash (or please don't bring your dog)
• Do not share items with those not in household
• There will be safety volunteer leaders at the event
• Anyone not practicing physical distancing or who are exhibiting known COVID-19 symptoms will be asked to leave
• We encourage those who are in the high risk category to stay home if they feel it necessary

FLOW OF THE ACTIVITY
• Meet at 9:45am for sign-in, introductions (please be on time)
• If you can't find us, please call Ashton at 587-893-2693
• Remove invasive plants
• Volunteer until 11:15am & sign-out

WHAT TO BRING
• Water bottle
• Rain jacket in case it rains
• Your own gardening gloves, tools, safety glasses
• Clothes you don't mind getting dirty
• Long sleeves & pants to protect you from thorny plants and ticks
• Sturdy, comfortable closed toe shoes/boots or rain boots
• Mask (we encourage everyone to wear a mask, please bring your own. Some will be available if needed)

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU:
• Gloves, tools, safety glasses if you don't have your own
• An educational instruction on what to do (no experience necessary!)
• Packaged refreshments
• A small thank you gift at the end, donated by our in-kind sponsors

• A follow-up survey will be sent
• A volunteer letter emailed on request
