Join the Lower Mainland Green Team & City of Burnaby for a Community Litter Cleanup around the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre!

We will be cleaning up litter in the areas around the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre in Burnaby. We will be caring for our community, ensuring litter stays out of ecosystems & waterways, having fun & connecting with each other outdoors. We will be working RAIN OR SHINE!

All ages, abilities & experience levels are welcome, bring your family & friends! NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. Gloves, tools, supplies, educational instruction & snacks provided!

MEETING INSTRUCTIONS
Meet on the grass by the parking lot of the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre, EXACT LOCATION HERE: https://bit.ly/3EVm9JK. Look for our arrows & signs, call/text Ashton at 778-968-2693 if you can't find us!

GETTING THERE/PARKING
• This activity is accessible by public transit (along the R5 bus route or a short bus ride from the Brentwood Town Centre Skytrain station) which is a great way to save on costs & is better for the environment. Use Google Maps or download the Transit app (green icon) on your phone to find the best route for you!
• Free parking in area

CARPOOLING
Looking for a ride or are willing to give others a ride to/from this activity? This will help make our activity more inclusive! Use the comment section at the bottom of this event page to organize. If no one responds to your comment, contact Ashton.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING WHEN CARPOOLING
Volunteers who carpool with others do so at their own risk
• Any compensation for the ride is to be discussed/agreed upon between the driver & the passenger
• Please be courteous & respectful to one another & inform each other of any changes right away. E.g. Let others know if you will be late
• LMGT staff are not allowed to give rides & are not responsible for coordinating rides (though they may assist)

WASHROOMS
• We will be using public washrooms in the Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre

FLOW OF THE ACTIVITY
• Meet at 9:45am (please be on time)
• Sign in on your phone or our tablet
• Receive educational instruction/safety talk
• Form groups, assign routes, receive supplies
• Clean up litter
• Take a snack break around 11:30am
• Continue cleaning litter
• Take home a thank you gift
• Sign out on your phone or our tablet

WHAT TO BRING
• Refillable water bottle
• Bright clothing to be extra visible on the streets
• Long sleeves/pants are recommended to protect you from anything sharp/thorny
• Sturdy, comfortable closed toe shoes/boots
• Rain boots/jacket if it rains, sunscreen/hat if it's sunny
• Your own garbage picker, gloves & safety vests (we have lots, don't worry if you don't have any)

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU
• Gloves, safety vests, safety glasses, garbage pickers, bags, route maps & more
• An educational instruction on what to do (no experience necessary!)
• Yummy snacks
• A small thank you gift at the end, donated by a sustainable business

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS
• A follow-up survey will be sent (filling this out helps us improve our program and secure funding to run more activities!)
• A volunteer letter emailed on request

Event will be outdoor
• Recommended physical distancing (at least 6ft apart from those outside household) • Hand sanitizer provided • Masks are encouraged, but not required • If you start to feel ill, inform staff & leave immediately
