What we’re about
We men face a choice. We can either try to live up to incomplete and immature notions of what a man is, or we can learn to connect with our own authentic and healthy wisdom and power.
One path leaves us still a boy pretending to be a "real" man -- with superficial friendships with other men and unhealthy ways of relating to family, work, women, and our own emotions. The other path offers us the ability to connect with what is already noble and heroic within ourselves so we have a firm foundation to face the challenges/adventures that life brings.
The ManKind Project is about building a community where we have the courage and skills to choose the path of the mature masculine -- not only as the course of our lives but also embodied day in and day out. This work is about being a clear mirror for each other so we can see a true, not distorted, reflection of ourselves -- our light as well as our dark, our strengths as well as our shortcomings, their fullness as well as their limitations.
Breaking away from familiar but limiting ways of living takes guts. It takes facing the shadows of our past and the fears we have about our future. Many men find the ManKind Project during a time of struggle -- when a crisis in their lives is forcing them to see if a better path is possible. Other men discover the ManKind Project after already starting down a path of healing and growth -- men who experienced the transformation in themselves through a 12 Steps program or going deeply within their spiritual tradition -- but still want more.
If you want to live from your own wisdom and power - to choose the path of the mature masculine -- then connect with the Omaha community of the ManKind Project by attending an Open Circle. For now, these take place virtually. After the pandemic, we intend to meet face to face again.
MKP is an international movement. Information at https://mankindproject.org/
A similar group that we recommend for women is H.E.R. Weekend - Topeka Kansas. It includes women in the Omaha area.
