What we’re about
Welcome! This group is for enthusiast photographers who want to:
a) meet other enthusiast photographers
b) explore Melbourne and surrounds
c) practice their photography
We are not a techie group. It's not about the size of your lens but about the joy of photography, spending time with other photographers, learning from each other. You can work in film, digital, mirrorless, smart phone. We've even had somebody come along with a sketch-pad and pencil once.
These outings are free and run by a stellar group of organisers on their free time. Venue entry fees (where applicable) are paid by you, and coffee & cake (or beers, as the case may be) which we often do after the outing is over.
You can share your photos - to give and receive feedback - on the Meetup event page. Each other’s photos represent a great opportunity for learning, particularly in relation to lighting, technique and composition.
To help ensure we operate in a safe and inclusive manner we ask all members and guests to abide by the following guidelines

Join & come along!
All ages welcome.

See all- Emerald Lake in the fall (12.30pm to 5.00pm)Emerald Lake Park, Emerald
Emerald Lake is a good spot to explore and photograph in the fall, and if we are fortunate we may be able to capture the beautiful autumn colors. In addition to the lake, we plan to do a walk around the area and have a look at the Emerald Museum at the start of the event. Lots to see and photograph - if we are lucky we may even get to photograph those lovely but possibly poisonous mushrooms. Keep a look out! The whole walk and exploration of this area is about 5km (medium).

- Wings & Wild Things of Banyule: Wildlife & Bird PhotographyBanyule Flats Reserve, Viewbank
Join us for a combined wildlife and bird photography session at the remarkable Banyule Flats Reserve, a local haven brimming with photographic opportunities. Inspired by the landscapes that drew the Heidelberg School artists, we'll explore this diverse 46.47-hectare sanctuary, renowned for its rich tapestry of flora and fauna.
Banyule Flats, seamlessly connecting with the Yarra Valley and Warringal Parklands, is a prime location to capture both the vibrant avian life attracted to the Yarra River and Banyule Swamp (with over 153 species recorded!) and the fascinating array of other native wildlife, including kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, and wallabies that call this area home.
Schedule
9.00am - Meet at Banyule Flats Reserve Car Park (off Somerset Drive, Viewbank) googlemap link We will proceed to the Banyule Swamp and Silt Pond, followed by the Main Yarra Trail.
11.30am - Meet for Brunch - location TBC
12.30pm - Meetup endsWhat to Bring:
- Your camera and lens (a telephoto lens is highly recommended, and a wider lens can be useful for habitat shots)
