About us
Welcome! This group is for enthusiast photographers who want to:
a) meet other enthusiast photographers
b) explore Melbourne and surrounds
c) practice their photography
We are not a techie group. It's not about the size of your lens but about the joy of photography, spending time with other photographers, learning from each other. You can work in film, digital, mirrorless, smart phone. We've even had somebody come along with a sketch-pad and pencil once.
These outings are free and run by a stellar group of organisers on their free time. Venue entry fees (where applicable) are paid by you, and coffee & cake (or beers, as the case may be) which we often do after the outing is over.
You can share your photos - to give and receive feedback - on the Meetup event page. Each other’s photos represent a great opportunity for learning, particularly in relation to lighting, technique and composition.
To help ensure we operate in a safe and inclusive manner we ask all members and guests to abide by the following guidelines

Join & come along!
All ages welcome.

Draft Schedule
Winton Wetlands and surrounds
A photographic journey taking in some silo art and the Winton Wetlands (formerly the now drained Lake Mokoan), which has now returned to nature. It’s an excellent location for birding, wildlife and astrophotography.
We recommend booking accommodation in Benalla, as it is the most central location.
Note, unless you have a serious 4WD with recovery gear, we suggest avoiding Nelson Road.
After any recent rain, take care when parking, as the road shoulders can be boggy even if the surface appears dry.

Coastal Impressions: Black Rock & Half Moon Bay Sunset (weather dependent)
Red Bluff Lookout, Black Rock, VI, AUJoin us for an immersive landscape photography session along one of Melbourne’s most dramatic stretches of coastline.
We will focus on three distinct elements: the fiery red sandstone textures of the cliffs, the geometric leading lines of the Black Rock Jetty, and the rusted silhouette of the HMVS Cerberus—a 19th-century breastwork monitor that has served as a breakwater since 1926.
Note: This event is weather-dependent. In the event of heavy rain or overcast skies that obscure the sunset, we will notify all attendees by Friday 27th March.
The Schedule
5.00 PM: Meet at the Red Bluff Lookout car park https://maps.app.goo.gl/YSnaDTt9Lwp2rRk17
6.00 PM: Meet at the start of Black Rock Jetty https://maps.app.goo.gl/UK2ex424pfJ2Mu8V8 (Half Moon Bay, Black Rock).
6:35 PM: Golden Hour starts. We will head down to the beach to capture the red sandstone cliffs and the jetty.
7:20 PM: Sunset. Capture the HMVS Cerberus wreck as the sun dips behind it.
7:35 PM: Blue Hour. Perfect for long exposures to flatten the bay water.
8:00 PM: Dinner TBC
