Buda House and Castlemaine Surrounds

Starting out in the town of Chewton, located on the outskirts of Castlemaine, we can explore this charming gold rush town, with a main street lined with historical buildings .Afterwards meet up for a pub lunch in Castlemaine ( taking part in lunch is optional, you can bring lunch or eat elsewhere) , and then head of to historic Buda House and gardens. Entry fee for Buda House is adult $12 and concession $10 . To finish off we can wander the nearby Botanic gardens or The Mill, both located on nearby Walker Street.

Lunch booking will be made at The Railway Hotel, 65 Gingell Street ( off Walker Street) , Castlemaine , an olde worlde pub near Botanic Gardens. Meal choices include seafood, duck, steak, parmigiana , curry and vegetarian options, plus there are gluten free and vegetarian alterations to main meals by request.

Wander up and down the Main street of Chewton, the nearby Goldfields path and enjoy the history!

Meet at Railway Hotel, 65 Gingell Street ( pre booking required) or have lunch or picnic in Castlemaine.

Entry requires ticket payment. If choosing not to go to Buda House, we recommend checking out The Mill, Castlemaine instead while shops and cafes are still open.

4pm-5pm
Visit beautiful Castlemaine Botanic Gardens , Walker Street, complete with lake.
Opposite the Botanic Gardens is The Mill, Castlemaine, an old Wool Mill that has been repurposed into an arts and dining area , entry is free. Containing art shops, artisan foods, makers spaces and the fabulous Kaffee Haus , a decadent Viennese style cafe/ restaurant (closes 4 pm ! ) , plus Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar ( open til 5pm).Enjoy the industrial features and preserved factory buildings.
