ArtVo and Firelight Festival

Details

There are these two activities close to each other which may be of interest to you - you may wish to go to one or both. We are still in the planning stage and the links are below for you to consider:

ArtVo Melbourne
https://www.artvo.com.au/

This is an interesting activity which we can do as photographers and we can start the day with this event for about 1.5 hours. Entree Fee $30 plus fee.

Firelight Melbourne 2025
This is quite a popular event in Melbourne. The challenge is for all of us to stay together throughout the event. To manage our expectations, we could meet at the start, and possibly catch up again mid way.

The program is out!

FINAL SCHEDULE
ArtVo event
2.45pm - Meet at the ArtVo entrance for welcome and briefing. We encourage you to purchase your ticket in advance for the 3pm session. We are allowing about 2 hours for this event. (ArtVo - 26 Star Cres, Docklands)
5.00pm - Re group at the ArtVo entrance to head to the Firelight event.

Firelight event
5.30pm - Meet at the corner of La Trobe St and Harbour Esplanade for welcome and briefing. To manage everyone's expectations, it is unlikely we are able to stay together as a group. So we encourage you to perhaps stay in little groups until we re group mid way through the evening.
5.45pm - start exploring around the festival (Victoria Harbor Promenade, Harbor Esplanade, New Quay Central etc). Lots to see and photograph.
There should be lots to eat at this festival.
7.30pm - Re group at Lady cutler Melbourne Showboat (this may change - will update if there's a change)
7.45pm - continue exploring the festival
9.30pm - Event finishes.

Note: Common sense stuff like appropriate jacket or rainwear as it is likely to be very cold. Given the crowd you may not be able to use a tripod unless you find a quiet spot. You may want to post questions on what lenses to bring to capture night shots in crowded areas.

Lens to bring and use: The ArtVo is an indoor with some small spaces and limited lighting can be challenging A fast lens f2.8 - f1.4 with wide angle can be useful but all depends for what you prefer to photograph and use.
Also can be useful for the following firelight festival.
If you are interested in a Photo Challenge: taking ICM photos (a technique where the photographer deliberately moves the camera during the exposure to create artistic, abstract, and painterly effects.)

Parking: there’s a flat rate of $12 all day on weekends or use public transport as it might be getting full out.

Look forward to seeing all of you on the night. It will be fun.

Please keep an eye on this page for any updates up to the day of the event.
