What we’re about
The Merdeka Rounds
“Freedom to Train. Unity in Combat.”
The Merdeka Rounds is a community-driven sparring and skill-share collective based in Kuala Lumpur. We bridge the gap between beginners and veterans, creating a safe, ego-free environment where knowledge flows as freely as the rounds. Whether you’re putting on gloves for the first time or preparing for a fight, there is a place for you on our open mats.
- Our Core Pillars
Knowledge Transfer: We believe in "each one, teach one." Seasoned practitioners are encouraged to mentor newcomers, while beginners bring the energy that keeps the sport growing.
Safe Harbor: We maintain a strict "Controlled Intensity" policy. Every member leaves the session better than they started—not injured.
Neutral Ground: This is a place to make new connections across different gyms and disciplines.
2. Session Structure
To ensure everyone gets the most out of the "Sesh," we divide our time and space:
The Bridge (Mixed Level): A collaborative space for flow-sparring, technical drills, and question-and-answer exchanges.
The Deep End (Seasoned Only): A dedicated area for advanced practitioners. These rounds are higher intensity and faster-paced, designed for those with the conditioning and experience to handle "fight-pace" sparring.
3. Gear & Safety Requirements
Your safety is our priority. No gear, no spar.
Mandatory: Mouthguard and hand wraps. (get it online)
Headgear and glove policy: * BYO: We strongly encourage you to bring your own gear for hygiene and fit.
Rental: If you don't have your own yet, high-quality headgear and gloves is available for rent (RM 40).
Shin Guards/Gloves: Required for all striking rounds (14-18 oz gloves preferred for sparring).
4. Community Values
Check the Ego: We are here to learn, not to win the "World Championship."
Protect Your Partner: You are responsible for the person standing across from you.
Inclusivity: We stand in solidarity with all who seek to better themselves through martial arts, remembering that training is a privilege. We foster a space of respect for all backgrounds.
