What we’re about

This group is meant to be a hub for various events I organise at my home in Alvalade:

  • Movie & Dinner
I've got a great home cinema at home and I'd like to share it with more people! Instead of the traditional "dinner and a movie", I believe we should switch it up. We'll watch the movie first and then have dinner together, sharing our experiences and thoughts.
The home theatre has an LG C1 83" OLED TV, a Yamaha RX-V377 AVR with 5.1 speakers: 2 Triangles Labs BR07 speakers, 1 BRC1, 2 rear Yamaha NS-B20 and a JBL 15'' passive subwoofer amplified by a NAD 218THX.
  • Math & Beyond (formerly Mathematics Presentation → Philosophy Dinner)
Mathematics is a fascinating subject, but it often goes unappreciated. Through accessible lectures, I aim to showcase its beauty.
The plan is to have a lecture-type thing in the afternoon, followed by a dinner where we can have a discussion on a philosophy-adjacent topic (in a very broad sense) informed by the maths we talked about.
  • Making & Hacking
A hackerspace (also referred to as makerspace) is a community-operated space where people with common interests, such as computers, machining, technology, science, digital art, or electronic art, can meet, socialize, and collaborate.
I'd like to organise gatherings where we can build some nice stuff together. I can provide a big table, a few 3D printers, a decent variety of tools and some creativity.
  • Meeples & Eats
I have a board game collection with around 50 titles, most of which are on the heavy/long side.
I enjoy very much teaching these games and would like to find new people to play with! I'll provide the table, the game and the snacks and you just have to show up and do your best to beat up everyone else
  • Mingle & Wrangle
I have a diverse range of political views that don't neatly fit into any one party or ideology. I like to get into brass tacks and think about the topics almost from first principles. This means that on some topics I have some deeply held views that are very hard to change because I feel most arguments are very shallow, but on other topics, I have absolutely no idea what to believe.
I'd like to have conversations on the latter ones with people with opposing points of view, but who at the same time have strong opinions and are open to changing their minds.
