Hangout in Factorio Space Age
Details
Want to meet people and hang out while building stuff in Factorio? You can be a brand-new player or a veteran. Everyone is welcome! This might become a regular thing if enough people are interested.
Factorio Space Age is a top-down game where you gather resources, craft stuff, research new technologies, make space ships, fight aliens, explore new planets, and so on. It's a mix of Minecraft, Total Annihilation, and tower defense games, with conveyor belts thrown in. The Space Age expansion is basically a whole new game that significantly builds upon the original.
Factorio has so much content this could become an ongoing hangout for many months.
== New Players ==
If you're new and curious, there's a free demo on Steam. If you like it, you'll need the base game and Space Age expansion to play.
You're welcome to chat in the meetup if you're not sure whether you want to buy it yet. Factorio doesn't have a player-specific level or progression system, so you can join at any time and it'll be fine. No catch-up to worry about.
== Where ==
We'll meet in the Gaming 1 voice chat channel of the Millennial Social Club's (MSC) Discord server: https://discord.gg/3dQN2jceh6. We won't use camera.
The MSC group was started for people in the area around Bellevue, WA, but these meetups will be online. I started a "Factorio hangout" thread in the "events-forum" to discuss the game. Feel free to @ me there if you have any questions.
== First Meetup ==
During the first meetup on Thursday at 7pm Pacific I'll host a dedicated game server, and make sure everyone can connect. The server's basic quality-of-life mods will download and install automatically, with no effort needed on your part. These provide minor benefits like a checklist to coordinate multiplayer group activities.
Then we can chat about when and how we want to play.
Thursdays work for me, but a second evening would be fun. In terms of playstyle, I like to let the least-experienced player set the pace of tech progression, which lets you figure things out at your own pace and avoid feeling lost.
If people have the time and interest during the first meetup, we can dive into some initial base setup.
Hope to see you there!
