Backpacking Emigrant Wilderness

Details

Emigrant Wilderness is located in the central Sierra, generally north of Yosemite. Access is via Hwy 108 east of Sonora near Pinecrest. Elevation will generally average around 8,000 feet with typical Sierra setting of lovely meadows/mixed forest/massive granite/many lakes. The trip itinerary at this point to be determined. Our trail head will be Crabtree.

Around 30 miles backpacking over 5 days/4 nights.

Difficulty: Moderate

No cost permit

Bear canister or hang food

Water availability excellent (need to filter)

Fishing in most lakes possible

Afternoon thunderstorms always a possibility

Many campgrounds around Pinecrest for those who wish to travel the day before.

General Itinerary/More Details to Follow:

We will begin at Crabtree trail and probably proceed 9 miles to Piute Lake for the first night, then the next 3 nights will be destinations south and west to be determined. I plan to keep the number of hikers to only six or seven, mostly due to limited camp sites at our destinations.
