"Maureen's Loop"
This 6.2 mile hike is dedicated to Maureen Hergert, whom many of you know from her fun and witty spirit and her social director attitude in our group. Maureen passed away just before Christmas last year and Edith wants to name this following hike after her:
Starting at the Badger Hill parking lot, we hike up the hill on Guidotti Rd to the second bench and then right on Skyline Rd. Follow Skyline, which at one point forks into Skyline (left) and Oilwell Rd (right). We stay left on Skyline until there is a narrow trail #44 on the right side. We take #44 which is a beautiful section in between old oak trees. Maureen loved that section! When we hit a bigger trail, which is Three Sisters Rd, we go right until we reach Oilwell. We'll take a left at Oilwell and hike until we can see a small trail to the right #45 that leads us up to another bench. We'll take #45 and stay on it until we reach the bench, which is the highest point before it goes down towards the Toro Park residential area (just before the bench there is another folk with the #40 trail to the left that we ignore!). At the bottom of the hill we cross a stream bed, then turn right onto Toro Park Rd behind those Toro Park houses until we reach the parking lot again.
This loop (6.2miles) is slightly longer than the usual Badger Hill loop (5miles), but more beautiful due to the #44 detour, the now called “Maureen's Loop”.
Proper hiking equipment is required.
Bring 1-2 liters of water.
Heavy rain will cancel.
