A three day/two night backpacking trip into the Russian Wilderness, located in the Klamath Mountains, northwest of Mt Shasta.

We will backpack into Russian Lake and stay there for two nights. For the layover day, there are many lakes/trails/overlooks to explore; or just relax.
We will begin at Deacon Lee trailhead. The hike into the lake is around 4 miles with a 1,200 ft elevation gain. The lake itself sits around 7,000 ft.
There is no permit required, fires should be okay, bear cans not required (hang instead), mosquitoes may be an issue.

Our trail head is Deacon Lee, access via an unpaved Forest Service road east of the town of Callahan. This trail head will show up on your Google Maps as Deacon Lee trail head.

We can meet at the trailhead on Thursday morning by 10AM, hike to lake should take around three hours.

Due to travel times, I plan to arrive the day prior (Wed 24th) and overnight reasonably near the the trailhead, perhaps near the town of Etna or Callahan (travel time from Etna to trailhead is around 1 hour 15 minutes) There are many campgrounds in the area, mostly Forest Service (Klamath National Forest) although I have not researched any in detail. Anyone wanting to join me, let me know.
