Hi there,
WHOEVER you are, please feel free to come and join us for this all-day creative writing workshop + food & drink + literary handouts!
Together, we'll be looking at stories and ideas from ancient mythologies and how you can use them to inform your own fiction writing.
By the end of the day you'll have a host of your own new, creative ideas, and new bits of fiction written on the subject, ready to take home and develop in your own way.
...
What do you mean by "ancient mythologies and modernity" (just so I know if this will be relevant to me)?
Ancient mythologies are humankind's early attempts at philosophy, literature, religion, and aesthetics.
There's a reason writers still use ancient Greek mythology, for example, to inform their characters:
Mythological stories contain all the love, desire, pain, war, power, impotence - all the light and darkness, all the challenges and trevails - of the human character.
From James Joyce to Rick Riordan, Colm Toibin to Margaret Atwood, modern and contemporary literature is littered with the kind of mythological influence we'll be exploring.
...
Okay, so what's the plan?
We'll start the day with teas/coffees and a warm-up writing session, then take a break for brunch.
After this, we'll get stuck into some reading, writing, and friendly, supportive conversation around the texts we're looking at (all opinions and perspectives will be welcome!).
...
What's included?
- A full day of creative writing workshops/exercises
- A tea or coffee to start the day
- A Finch's Pub brunch
- A late afternoon/early evening drink (a pint of beer, glass of wine, or soft drink).
...

...
