Note: I’ll be in Charleston, South Carolina when this event takes place, so there won’t be a host on site. This is a great chance for everyone to connect, enjoy the experience, and make it a relaxed, social evening together.
Join us for an evening at Minari, a modern Korean restaurant shaped by the idea of “Sohn-Mat” — a Korean phrase meaning “flavour in the fingertips.” It refers to the irreplaceable quality a cook brings to a dish through care, experience, and personal touch.
Chef Jeff Watson’s culinary story begins in the comforting chaos of his childhood. Born in Daegu, South Korea, and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, his bicultural upbringing blended his father’s fiery love of Mexican food with his mother’s meticulous Korean traditions. That early exposure to contrasting flavours shaped a deep understanding of food as a universal language — one he carried into the Minneapolis dining scene.
After years honing his craft within the DDP Restaurant Group, under the mentorship of Daniel del Prado, Watson now presents his own vision with Minari. As a third-culture chef, he isn’t trying to recreate the past — instead, his cooking reflects where heritage, memory, and the present moment intersect.
Minari’s menu is designed around small plates, banchan, and thoughtfully composed dishes that encourage sharing and conversation. The offerings move fluidly between Korean tradition and modern interpretation, featuring vegetable-forward plates, refined proteins, handmade dumplings, and inventive cross-cultural combinations.
Expect a balance of comforting flavours and bold creativity — from classic Korean elements like fermented sauces and seasonal banchan to unexpected dishes that reflect Chef Jeff Watson’s third-culture perspective. The menu evolves, so guests are encouraged to review current offerings in advance and arrive open to exploring a variety of plates together.
This is a small, intentionally limited gathering (maximum of 6 people) designed for shared plates, conversation, and a relaxed dining experience.
Please RSVP thoughtfully, and update your status promptly if your plans change so another member may attend.
