Join the talk + Q&A hosted by Night Watchman Society with Prof. Deirdre McCloskey on "Bourgeois Dignity: Why Economics Can't Explain the Modern World" as she delves into how and why explosive economic growth depends more on social attitude and opinion rather than new markets or innovations.
A number of theories and hypotheses put forward by many scholars through the years attempt to explain the sudden and phenomenal rise in prosperity in Europe in the 1800s. None of these, however, provide an adequate explanation of “The Great Fact” - what Professor Deirdre McCloskey defines as the colossal increase in mankind’s standard of living over 200 years ago. Prof. McCloskey, author of “Bourgeois Dignity: Why economics can’t explain the modern world” proposes a different explanation; an important aspect of history that had been overlooked until now- The Bourgeois Revaluation.
The event will be live streamed on our Facebook page and YouTube Channel at 6.30PM (IST).
