Jean Genet, Querelle (1947). More sweaty, shirtless sailors than you can shake a stick at. Jean Genet is one of the most famous and infamous French writers of the 20th century. He only wrote four novels plus a half-novel/half-memoire. Different critics list different ones as his best, but one thing that we can say definitively about this one is that it was one of the four.
