Mentor Headlands Kayaking & Sunset Cookout
Details
The weather is finally getting warm and the days long. We will put the kayaks in just outside of the "no swim" buoys at far west end of the parking lot. The water should be about 70 degrees.
We can spend an hour or so on the water followed by a cookout at one of the beach grills. I'll bring charcoal for the grills and some snacks. Feel free to bring what ever you would like to grill. I believe we should have a nice beach view of the setting sun as it sinks beneath the water.
Experience Level - The beach and water temperature should make this an any level event if the waves are low. Feel free to join this event even if you have limited or no experience kayaking, would like to try one of my kayaks, or would like to just attend the cookout. Just be aware that kayaks are inherently tippy and getting wet is likely.
What to bring:
- Kayak with spray skirt
- Life jacket
- Paddle
- Kayak pump or bailer with tow rope for kayak
- Clothes appropriate for the weather conditions
- Water and snacks
Feel free to message me below if you are a beginner and need to borrow some equipment.
Safety - Kayaking will be cancelled if any of the following conditions exist on the day of the trip. However, the picnic will still be a go unless there is lightening.
- White caps
- Thunder/lightening
- High winds or waves higher than two feet
- Air temperatures below 55F
I will check the weather conditions the evening before and the morning of the event. I will post updates.
We will stay close to shore following the shoreline.
