To keep the meetups friendly though, we will continue to, at least try, to stay away from controversial topics. The forbidden topics are religion, politics and global warming.

How to talk about evolution 100 years after the Scopes trial
Malibu Diner, 163 W 23rd St, New York, NY, USWelcome to NYC Skeptic’s “Skeptical Dinners,” a series of events facilitated by Prof. Massimo Pigliucci, a philosopher and biologist at the City College of New York. The idea is similar to that of the Ancient Greek symposia: let’s get a small number of like-minded people together over drinks and food and discuss interesting subjects!

This year marks the one hundredth anniversary of the infamous Scopes “monkey” trial which took place in Dayton, TN. John Scopes was the first teacher to be tried for the “crime” of teaching the theory of evolution. A century later, let’s get together and talk about the best way to understand and explain evolution, so that we may make our small contribution toward a more sane, reason-based society.
