What happens in your brain at the moment of inspiration? Where do ideas come from? Are they just a product of brain chemistry? A muse? Dumb luck? This real-time experiment will explore the process of creation through improvised music, art, improv from UCB, and thought-provoking discussion by experts in the field of psychology and neuroscience.

Act One: Art & Music

Multi-instrumental musician George Hrab (http://necss.org/speakers/george-hrab/) will improvise a sophisticated and completely unique musical performance while multidisciplinary artist Roman Hrab (http://necss.org/speakers/roman-hrab/) creates an original artwork, both inspired in real-time by what they see and hear. This unique experience will place the audience right in the middle of the creative process.

Act Two: Science

Noted physicist and entertainer Brian Wecht (http://necss.org/speakers/brian-wecht/) will moderate a panel discussion and audience Q&A on the science of creation and improvisation. Participants will include George and Roman Hrab, Dr. Steven Novella (http://necss.org/speakers/steve-novella/) (Assistant Professor of Neurology, Yale University School of Medicine), Dr. Heather Berlin (http://necss.org/speakers/heather-berlin/) (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience, Mount Sinai School of Medicine), and members of the Upright Citizens Brigade and People’s Improv Theater.
