About us

The Open Water Book Club is a discussion group for people who want to grow through reading, reflection, and respectful conversation about society, justice, ethics, psychology, technology, compassion, and what it means to live responsibly in the world.

A group where people can read interesting nonfiction and then actually talk about it with other people who are curious and care about the world.
It’s not a debate club, and it’s also not a place where everyone has to agree. You don’t need to come in with the perfect opinion or know everything about the subject. The whole point is that we’re still learning.

We’ll talk about people, history, culture, behavior, justice, science, technology, and experiences that may be very different from our own. Hopefully we leave understanding something a little better than we did before, even if we’re still unsure what we think.

Mostly it is meant to be a kind, open minded group where people can ask questions, listen to each other, and have conversations that feel thoughtful without feeling tense or performative.

Hope to see you at a meeting soon!
