Mokelumne Wilderness 2 Day 14 Mile with Moderate Elevation

  • Jul 20, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Experience the stunning high elevation terrain of the Mokelumne Wilderness strolling through alpline lakes, meadows, granite and volcanic terrains. About 14 miles and 2K in total elevation gain. Depart from the Carson Pass Trailhead (East) on Saturday. Please plan to arrive by 10:30AM to be ready to leave by 11AM. Option to meet on Friday and camp at Martin Meadows. On Saturday, we will stay outside of CPMA which will allow us to have a fire (conditions permitting). I am also up for staying till Monday to do a side trip if anyone is interested.

Carson Pass Trailhead is 6 mi east of Kirkwood Ski Area on the right (south) side of road. There is a $5.00 fee per vehicle per day to park in trailhead lot.

Martin Meadows camp area is approximately two miles past the silverlake campgrounds on the north side of Hwy 88, between thunder mtn and horse canyon trailheads. There is a small group of Aspens on the north side to serve a visual que. A note will be left on the message board as to go right or left and the vehicles to look for.

Permit limits the group to eight. If there are enough people wait-listed and another trip leader volunteers, we could have two separate group go.

Feel free to email me with any questions. Looking forward to it!

Good news is that the chance of rain is decreasing! I plan to leave SF by noon and should arrive Friday around 4pm. May do a short hike but will be back to camp before dark. I will have some sort of small rental car parked at the site and will try to leave some sort of note on the board and car so you can confirm you are in the right place. Feel free to call me during the day. Not sure about cell coverage at the camp area. Look forward to meeting everyone.

I'm leaving from the south bay. Let me know if anyone wants to carpool. I'll be returning home on sun.

May have to bail on this one sadly, have a heavy duty interview on monday. I'll change out my RSVP if my prep confidence doesn't improve tomorrow =/

Hi everyone, I am looking forward to the trip this weekend. Current forecast calls for highs in the 80's and lows in the 40's with a chance of rain. I'll continue to monitor the forecast to see how it is trending. I am planning on arriving to Martin Meadows Friday afternoon sometime. I will leave a message on the board to where we will be camped. Please be sure to cancel your rsvp if you are not able to meet by Sat at 11AM. My phone number is[masked] if you need to reach me.

Hi Karen, glad to have you join. There is a route planned and is described in the post above yours. I have no problem with having your dog come but let's see if anyone else has hesitation. Maybe the week of the trip would be a good time to work out carpooling. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Michael, We will be hoping on the TYT trail to make our way to Summit Canyon. We will pass several alpine lakes and the surrounding 10K ft peaks. There are a few side trip options along the way in addition to hiking down the creek. On the second day, we will take the PCT back to the trail head. We will cross through some meadows next to Elephant peak. If anyone is up for an extra day, we could continue north on the PCT across hwy 88.

Michael, thanks for the extra sighting detail. I think it is enough to have others find it so I am okay with changing the camp site for Friday.

  • Sean Matthews removed the location. It was Carson Pass Trailhead

Michael, would someone be able to find this camp area if they were arriving in the dark. How do you know where to turn off the Hwy and how close are the sites to where you would park?

Thanks for the suggestion Michael. We can certainly go with that camp area.
