As you probably know, Kronos Quartet has had an unusually deep relationship with film, extending well beyond simply contributing recordings to soundtracks. The quartet has collaborated closely with composers and filmmakers, bringing its distinctive, emotionally charged string sound to both narrative films and documentaries. One of its earliest major film collaborations was Philip Glass’s score for Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985), while later landmark projects include Glass’s score for Dracula (1999) and Clint Mansell’s scores for Requiem for a Dream (2000) and The Fountain (2006).

Kronos has also worked directly with filmmakers on projects such as The Green Fog, and its adventurous approach to collaboration has helped establish it as one of the most influential contemporary string ensembles. Kronos has received more than 40 awards and honors, including three Grammy Awards, the prestigious Polar Music Prize, the Avery Fisher Prize, and the Edison Klassiek Oeuvre Prize.
