What we’re about

The Photo Wanderers is a group for anyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors with a camera in hand. We head out on scenic walks, hikes, and trails to discover new views, landscapes, and hidden spots, from rugged coastlines to quiet forest paths.

Whether you’re into photography, hiking, or just being out in nature, you’re welcome. It’s not about having the best gear or perfect shots, it’s about getting outside, slowing down, and seeing the world differently.

Most of our meetups will be around Donegal, Sligo, and nearby areas, but we’ll wander wherever there’s a good trail and a great view.

Autumn Photo Walk at Glencar Waterfall

Autumn Photo Walk at Glencar Waterfall

Glencar Lake, Glencar Sligo, Sligo, IE

About the Event
Join us for a relaxed autumn photo walk around Glencar Waterfall and the surrounding valley. This is a gentle, scenic walk with a mix of woodland, waterfalls, and lakeside views, perfect for photography in soft autumn light.

We’ll meet at the car park at 11:00 am, visit the main waterfall first, then follow the lakeside trail for wider landscape shots. The route is mostly flat and easy underfoot, about 3 to 4 km in total, with plenty of time to stop and take photos.

After the walk, we’ll finish with coffee or tea at the teaSHED Café beside the car park.

Route Overview

  1. Start at the main car park – short path to the base of Glencar Waterfall.
Good spot for long-exposure shots and close-up details of the falls.
  2. Continue along the forest path – stream, mossy trees, and soft light through the canopy.
Great for depth and leading-line compositions.
  3. Walk along Glencar Lake viewpoint – open landscape, reflections, and distant hills.
Ideal for wide-angle shots and horizon work.
  4. Return to the car park for coffee and a chat at the teaSHED around 2:00 pm.

Photography Goals

  • Capture the colour and texture of the autumn landscape
  • Try long exposures on the waterfall (tripod optional)
  • Frame woodland and water scenes
  • Use natural light and reflections on the lake
  • Share ideas and compare results with others

All levels are welcome, whether you use a phone, compact, or DSLR.

What to Bring

  • Camera or phone
  • Tripod (optional but useful for waterfalls)
  • Waterproof jacket and sturdy shoes
  • Drink and snack (or visit the café after)

Meeting Point
Meet at Glencar Waterfall car park at 11:00 am. We’ll start walking by 11:15 am and finish around 2:00 pm with coffee at the TeaSHED.
