George MacDonald, Phantastes

After taking August off, we will be back at the Abbey on the last Wednesday in September with Phantastes by Georg MaDonald, a true classic, as was MacDonald himself on the whole. While he was a bit before the Inklings, Lewis credit's him as a seminal influence (even making him his guide in Great Divorce), as did Tolkien . . . and a host of others (Lewis Carroll, W. H. Auden, J. M. Barrie, Mark Twain, L. Frank Baum, T. H. White, Hilaire Belloc, G. K. Chesterton, Neil Gaiman, and Madeleine L’Engle, to name but a few). It's a very rich work and hopefully just as rich discussion.
