A very happy new year to all. For the January meeting, we will be going through part II of John Garth's Tolkien and the Great War, chapters 7 through 10, covering his actual presence on the front in Europe, primarily around the Battle of the Somme, the part of the book sadly but aptly called "Tears Unnumbered."

I hope all are surviving well as we enter winter proper. I've not kept an eye on PGH weather, but up here on the edge of Lake Erie's snow belt, we've been getting our exercise shoveling lately (and those of us who shovel by hand, re-shoveling after the plows pack our entrances back full).

I look forward to seeing all who can make it.

Stay warm and God bless,
Brett
