Vincent Gap to Mt. Baden-Powell

George will again lead us on a magnificent hike in the San Gabriel mountains, WELL worth the drive. The summit is at 9400', so altitude sickness is a potential danger on this hike. This is a hard hike up the Pacific Crest Trail with 2800' of elevation gain, so beginners should definitely not attend. Participants will be rewarded with truly magnificent, panoramic views (see below) that include the Mojave desert and which takes us on several 'phases' of the Angeles National Forest that change with the altitude. We'll see oak and Jeffrey pine, white fir, lodgepole and limber pines near the top.

The mountain is named after Lord Robert Stevenson Smyth Baden-Powell, a man who, somehow, acquired 4 last names. He was the founder of the Boy Scout movement.

If you have only hiked in the Santa Monica mountains or Griffith Park etc, you owe it to yourself to hike in the REAL mountains of the San Gabriels!
