Whitney Canyon Falls Trail, Santa Clarita/Newhall

Details
This will be another easier out-and-back trek at the east end of Santa Clarita. We'll hike to the falls in Whitney Canyon, a neighbor to Elsmere Canyon. This is suitable for all beginners. Plenty of time for photos and videos.
We’ll start from the trailhead at the northeast corner of the dirt parking lot, right behind the Newhall Park and Ride. We’ll hike a wide trail that will go under a canopy of trees about a half-mile out and parallel a dry creek bed. The trail will narrow as we go, until it’s a single track that will cross the creek bed more than once. Keep your eyes open for wildlife along the way (see photos), as they sometimes make appearances. We’ll hike out about 1.6 miles to where the falls start. There's a chance the falls may still be active. There will be an opportunity for those who like to climb to a second waterfall. There are more higher, but we’ll take a close look at the footing before venturing there. There’s no pressure to go up. Those who prefer to just photograph the beauty of the falls are more than welcome to start an early snack break before we head back.
One quick note: if you choose to hike far ahead of or behind the group, please let me know - you’ll be on your own at that point.
We may go for a meal after the hike, for those interested.
