Hike to Lizard Rock at Wildwood Park

Details

High Winds or fire will cancel this hike.

Tonight's hike is 4 miles with an elevation gain of 450'. It is suitable for beginners and slower hikers. Meet at the Wildflower Playfield parking lot at 6:30. There is a restroom but I'm not sure when it is locked.

**NOTE** Please don't sign up for this hike if you are in a rush or have other plans after. My hikes are casual and slower paced (1.5-2 mph), we take breaks, and we explore. I can't guarantee that we will be back at exactly the end time. Thank you.

Sunset is 8:12pm and the last light is at 8:40pm. Bring you flashlights just in case.

We will hike through the tunnel under the street to the other side, then take the Moonridge trail through the area that the old tv show Gunsmoke was filmed. This will lead us to the public access road adjacent to the dirt parking lot and onto the Mesa trail to Lizard Rock. We'll take a short break at the rock before heading down. Be prepared to take a couple of side trails. :)

  • Route type: Fire Road, single track, crossing the street, sidewalk
  • Difficulty: Beginner and above
  • Dogs: On a leash per state law
  • Restrooms: Nature
  • Water: Water bottles
  • Parking: Free
  • Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes, slip-'n-fall, tarantulas.

ESSENTIALS
Wear good hiking boots/shoes, bring your poles, hat, dress according to the weather.
Bring 2 liters of water, electrolytes, flashlight or headlight, snacks for energy

DIRECTIONS

From the 23, take the Avenida de Los Arboles exit and go west, about 2.5 miles, to the Wildflower Playfield. The parking lot is just past the baseball field on the right. The baseball field is on the corner of Avenida de Los Arboles and Canna St. If you reach the dirt parking lot at the end of the road, you have gone too far, turn around.
