Beach Hike - Zuma Beach to Point Dume

Details

Of all the paths we take in life, make sure a few of them are where the sun touches the sea.

I invite you to join me on this beginner friendly 4-mile hike with an elevation gain of 250'.

Meet in front of the "Sunset Restaurant." We will start promptly at 6:10 (no wait time) so please be there on time. If you are late, face the ocean and turn left.

**NOTE** Please don't sign up for this hike if you are in a rush or have other plans after. My hikes are casual and slower paced (1.5-2 mph), we take breaks, and we explore. I can't guarantee that we will be back at exactly the end time. Thank you.

The Walk/Hike

  • With the tide coming in, we may or may not be able to walk along the beach, if not we'll walk through the parking lot to the point.
  • We'll do the usual hike up to the top and admire the views. Bring a jacket, it can get windy and cooler up at the top.
  • Then we'll take a detour to the 194-step staircase that leads down to the shore on the other side of the point, hang out a few minutes, then walk up the same 194 steps back to the trail.
For those who don't want to do the stairs, you can hang out at the top with DaveR.
  • Finally, we'll take the trail along the boardwalk and around the cliffside. If time permits, we may view the sunset before heading down.

After the hike, let's do happy hour at the Sunset Restaurant.

Checklist

  1. Bring your flashlights just in case we need them.
  2. Bring a least a liter of water, snacks for energy, hat, poles if you need them, sunscreen.
  3. Bring a wind breaker as it can be windy at the top.
  4. Bring a jacket if you easily get cold.
  5. Sandals or water shoes is the preferred footwear for the beach part of the walk, barefoot is good too.
  6. For the trail going up to the top, you may prefer to wear something else (my water shoes work fine for the beach and trail).
  7. You might get wet so bring a towel or brush to dry off and get the sand off your feet.
