"Tuesday is proof that we survived Monday - now let's go to the beach!"

This is a 4+-mile hike with an elevation gain of 250'.

Meet me in front of the "Sunset Restaurant." We will start promptly at 6:10 so please be there on time. If you are late, face the ocean and turn left.

Directions

  • Coordinates: 34.011014, -118.816616
  • View Google Maps
  • View Apple Maps
  • Address to the restaurant: 6800 Westward Beach Road, Malibu, CA. Westward Beach Rd is off of Pacific Coast Hwy, just South of Zuma Beach.

Parking
There is FREE Parking along Westward Beach Road toward the Sunset restaurant. It also gets really crowded so you may have to backtrack quite a bit to find a parking space. Please give yourself ample time to park and walk to the restaurant.

There is also paid parking past the restaurant.

Overview
High tide is at 8:31 which may give us time to walk the beach to Point Dume. If not, we'll walk through the parking lot.

Our first stop will be the 194-step staircase that leads down to the shore on the other side of the point. We'll hang out a few minutes, then walk up the same 194 steps back to the trail.

  • For those who don't want to do the stairs, you can hang out at the top with DaveR.

Then we'll hike up to the top and admire the views (bring a jacket, it can get windy and cooler up there).

Finally, we'll take the trail along the boardwalk, around the cliffside and to the point. If time permits, we may view the sunset before heading down.

Let's top off the evening with happy hour at the Sunset Restaurant.

Essentials

  • Ventura County SARS 10 Essentials
  • Bring 2 liters of water, flashlights, snacks, electrolytes
  • Bring your hiking poles if needed.
  • Sandals or water shoes is the preferred footwear for the beach part of the walk, barefoot is good too.
  • For the trail going up to the top, you may prefer to wear something else (my water shoes work fine for the beach and trail).
  • Bring a jacket for cooler weather, sunscreen, hat, bug spray if needed.
  • Bring a wind breaker as it can be windy at the top.
  • You might get wet so bring a towel or brush to dry off and get the sand off your feet.
