Backpacking Trip in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness-Lakes and Meadows and More

Details

I scored some permits, so we are going backpacking! Please read the whole description to see how to get added to this trip, and please make sure your messaging is enabled for Meetup. The permit is for 10 people.

This is going to be a two night backpacking trip into the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. We are starting at the Bear Valley Trailhead which is situated east of 3 Fingered Jack, a very prominent peak in the area. The first day we will hike into the Canyon Creek Meadows area and look for a place to set up camp. From here we can explore around the area including the small lake and meadow that form Canyon Creek. The next day we will pack up and go over Minto Pass, pick up the PCT and head to Rockpile Lake where we will make camp and do more exploring. On day 3 we head down Rockpile Lake trail and meander back to our vehicles.

Each day involves around 8 miles of hiking and not more than 1000 feet of gain per day. We will spend part of the time in areas that have been burned, so be aware. We will visit several lakes, including Minto, Bear Valley and Wasco. We should have opportunities for swimming and fishing, so make that of your plan if interested.

What to bring: This is a typical backpack, bring a shelter, a sleeping bag and pad, some clothing layers including a waterproof rain jacket, food for the duration of the trip, cup, bowl, utensils, personal care items and something to carry water in. Please bring a water filter if you have one, as well as a stove and cooking pot, although these can be shared. Please ask any questions you may have.

I'm encouraging carpooling, particularly to keep the number of cars at the trailhead as low as possible. You can self-organize carpooling by leaving comments here on the event page. We will meet at the trailhead at 10am on Friday and should be back to the cars by 3pm on Sunday. I plan to drive up on Thursday evening to avoid getting up early. There is camping available at Suttle Lake and Round Lake, these are the closest to the trailhead that I know of.

Everyone goes on to the waitlist until you pay me $5 to secure your spot and help cover the permit cost. If you want to go on the trip, then message me and I will give you payment instructions. Please have your messaging on for the Meetup app. Thx.
