Dog Mountain Hike - Wildflowers!

Details
TOTAL DISTANCE: 6.5 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: ~2988 feet
PACE: ~ 2.5 mph
ESTIMATED HIKING TIME: ~ 5-6 hr
RATING: Difficult
HIKE DESCRIPTION:
Dog Mountain is a popular hike due to its easy access right off Highway 14, beautiful views, spring wildflower displays, and relatively short distance. Don't let the distance and low elevation fool you, however; the trails are very steep and will require some fitness and perseverance. This loop is known for prime wildflower viewing in May and June, but hikes in the summer and fall are rewarding as well.
Parking permits/Shuttle: Since it is the peak wild flower season, parking permits are required, but we will take the 2nd option of taking the shuttle from Skamania County Fairgrounds. The Dog Mountain Shuttle is free! Permits are required to hike Dog Mountain, and all Dog Mountain Shuttle riders receive a free stamp which serves as your permit for the day.

CARPOOLING: We will meet at Gateway Transit Center parking garage at 7:30 am for carpooling. People can also drive by themselves and meet at Skamania County Fairgrounds at 8:20 am. If carpooling, suggested payment of $10 each to the driver to share for car/gas/toll cost.
Shuttle Stop: Skamania County Fairgrounds, 710 SW Rock Creek Dr, Stevenson, WA 98648
What to bring:
- Hiking boots/shoes
- 2-3 Clothing layers, rain cover
- Hiking poles recommended
- Lunch, snacks, water
• Always a good practice to be equipped with The 10 essentials during hikes.
My hiking style is to stop frequently by creeks, wild-flower meadows, geological marvels and conversation, and not to rush through it. We stay together as a group but spread out for physical distancing. I reserve the right to remove anyone from the hike anytime based on their fitness level, attendance record, incomplete profile, or negative attitude.
- If you are on the going list, and decide to cancel, please change your RSVP to "No" asap. Canceling after 8 pm on on day before hike will result in a no-show on your record.
