Kayak around Ross Island from Willamette Park

Details
Note: Posting my 2nd Kayak trip. This will have be a team effort since I am by no means an expert Kayaker. This event is not for beginners.
If the allure of glistening city lights, views of iconic Portland bridges, and the novelty of floating homes beckons you, the Willamette River is where you should point your kayak.
For those familiar with a paddle, taking off from Willamette Park, circumventing Ross Island by kayak, and returning to the park is a popular and really fun route.
We'll launch from Willamette Park, paddle past the awesome floating homes and try to land somewhere on Ross island to stretch our legs - so bring a snack and of course plenty of water/drinks, hat, sunscreen, and wear your PFD. We're going early enough to hopefully avoid afternoon winds, but if we can't make it around the island, we'll just go at a comfortable pace and turn back when the group is tired. This time of year is always a concern for algae blooms, so we'll modify plans if the official warnings change... https://www.oregon.gov/oha/ph/healthyenvironments/recreation/harmfulalgaeblooms/pages/blue-greenalgaeadvisories.aspx
Note of caution, before we jump in: the river’s moods vary with weather and water levels. At times, challenging boat wakes or waves under the Oregon sky might demand more seasoned hands on the paddle on this particular journey. This kayaking route is best for intermediate kayakers. Going earlier in the day should mean less boat wakes.
Try to be there around 8:45 am, so we can spend get ready and launch by 9:15 am
