Snowshoe the Twin Lakes Loop on Mt Hood!
Details
Let's go snowshoeing! January is full on winter, and that means it's time to take a trip out to Mt Hood forest and do a loop in the snow around twin lakes. This adventure is about 8 miles, with about 1200 feet of gain. We will be hiking 3-4 hours total, more likely close to 4.
We are going to meet at Gateway Park and Ride at 7:30 to organize carpools. You need AWD or 4WD if you are going to drive. You also need a Sno-Park Pass to park at the trailhead. These should be purchased beforehand, you can get an annual pass or a day pass. It's about a 90 minute drive from Portland, but may be a bit longer depending on traffic and road conditions.
Here is a good trip report for the snowshoe: I Heart Pacific Northwest
Please make sure your snowshoes fit and are in good working order before coming on the trip. Snowshoes can be rented at REI and a few other places in town. Make sure you have proper clothing layers, waterproof pants are best, gaiters are also nice, you will need poles with snow baskets or ski poles. Poles can be rented with the snowshoes. Dont forget a hat and gloves and sunglasses. Definitely dont forget sunglasses. Bring water, as it's always important to stay hydrated. Bring snacks to power you thru the adventure.
After we are done playing in the snow, we can stop in Government Camp for something to eat. Let me know it you have questions.
