Hike Description:
Access to the Table Mountain and Cedar Mountain trails in the Gorge had been reduced due to the closing of the Aldrich Butte, Bonneville Hot Springs and Greenleaf Slough trailheads. The main access point became the Bonneville TH. That made for a long out and back. The Aldrich Butte and Greenleaf Slough trailheads are still closed, but the old Dick Thomas trailhead, now called Bonneville Hot Springs trailhead, has been reopened. That makes for a much shorter trip to Table Mountain and Cedar Mountain. Most of the trails in the area have had recent maintenance. I can confirm the trails are in great condition after many years of neglect.
This hike will be a loop, first going very steeply up Cedar Mountain Ridge, then very steeply up Westway Ridge to Table Mt., then very steeply down Table Mt. via Heartbreak Ridge to the PCT. Depending on the group, there will be a side trip option to Aldrich Butte and Cedar Falls, with those being a group decision. The entire route will be on trails.
The weather for Saturday looks like very little chance of rain. After the hike there will be an option to grab a bite at Bridgeside or Ixtapa in Cascade Locks.
My Style:
Fairly fast, with minimal breaks for long distances. We will break for snacks, hydration and layering.
