The Quest! First ever workshop in Copenhagen.

Details

This first-ever Copenhagen Quest is part of the World Wide Quest Day to mark the anniversary of Del Close's birth.

Ready for an insight-filled adventure? Then join The Quest!

Suitable for anyone with a spirit of curiosity, you will be equipped for your Quest during a three-hour morning workshop. You then explore before returning for a sharing of your experiences.

Meet the Quest:

Described by participants as, “completely transformational,” The Quest is an improvisational structure developed by the legendary improv thought leader Del Close. Initially created to be a soloexercise, The Quest, leads participants on a journey where they experience:

● taking the improvisational mindset, normally reserved for the stage, out into the everyday world,

● applying that mindset of presence for a longer period of time,

● exploring what happens as a result of that approach and

● reflecting on what what was discovered during the experience and

● sharing those insights through storytelling.

To embark on a Quest, one need not be an experienced improviser or even have any improv or storytelling experience at all, the only thing needed to embark on a Quest is the willingness to be open to new discoveries, to say yes.

The Story of The Quest: The Quest is a 24-hour (or less) improvisational exercise developed by Del Close in the early 1980s, during a series of workshops that he was leading in New York City. The exercise or “structure” as Close called them, languished, largely forgotten until 2014, when improv actor, improv director and comedy writer, Joey Novick reintroduced it to the world at the Applied Improvisation Network Conference in Austin. First Austin, then Hong Kong, then Philadelphia, then Shanghai, Chicago, Montreal and now Copenhagen! There is created teams all over the world to launch the first-ever World Wide Quest Day on March 9, 2016 (or that same week) in honor of Del Close’s birthday.

Price: 500 DKK.

Q. Do I have to be an experienced improviser?
A. It certainly helps but it is not necessary. We will go over some of the basics of improvisation that will help you make the most of your journey.

Q. Can I do it alone? Can I do it with a partner?
A. Yes, and yes. The exercise was initially intended to be a solo-exercise, however, if you would be more comfortable embarking on The Quest with a friend, that is fine too but it will be a different experience than doing a Quest on your own.

Q. What do I need to bring? What should I wear?
A. Bring something to write with and something to write on (don’t worry if you forget, we will have some pens and paper) but other than that no special materials are required. Layers are highly recommended since, during your Quest, you might want to spend your time outside or inside or go back and forth between.

Q. Why should I do it?
A. It is a day about discovering things, paying attention, responding to that attention and seeing what insights you gained as a result of it.
